China in the 1850s
After a series of catastrophes, China opened its ports to the world for the first time. The collection captures China's struggles in assimilating to the West for industrial and militaristic advancements while preserving key values of the Chinese culture. China's transformation in this era not only exemplifies globalization but also parallel my personal journey as an immigrant.
